Alcan Vibrated Bulk Density Device (VBDD)

Description

The VBDD is an analysis method using a semi‑automatic apparatus to measure the vibrated density of small petroleum coke samples.

The natural 4 x 14 Tyler mesh of the original coke is separated from the sample by manual sieving.  It is crushed until 20 x 35 Tyler mesh and poured at a regulated flow into a graduated cylinder located on a mobile plate until the coke reaches the 50 ml mark.  The coke thus collected is weighed, and its vibrated density (expressed in g/ml) is calculated.

The procedure is empirical, meaning that the proper technique and devices must be sticked to ensure results that can be reproduced.  To obtain comparable results in different laboratories, it is necessary that the operation parameters be precisely adjusted using reference samples.
