STAS Inc. welcomes an investment of $475 million

Wednesday, November 17, 2021 – In the wake of the announcements made by the Minister of Economy and Innovation for Quebec, Mr. Pierre Fitzgibbon concerning the aluminum industry, STAS Inc. commented on the $475-million investment over three years, as part of the 2021-2024 Quebec Aluminum Development Strategy, as well as the announcements made today by Rio Tinto.

“The announcements of the last few days show that the provincial government has recognized the importance of the aluminum industry, not only for the province of Quebec, but for our region as well, commented Louis Bouchard, Executive Prsident of STAS. “Equipment manufacturers like STAS will be able to take advantage of this support and continue to work to promote our expertise worldwide.”

STAS Inc. was one of the architects of the brief submitted as part of the consultation held in recent months regarding the development of the aluminum industry. Six recommendations had been proposed. “Like our collaborators, we are grateful that the government supports an integrated approach that is based on the reality of our industry, continued Mr. Bouchard. “Our recommendations are part of a desire to consolidate our achievements, in addition to ensuring the sustainability and long-term development of our industry.

STAS also welcomes the investments announced by Rio Tinto in its Jonquière facilities and looks forward to closely monitoring the calls for tenders in connection with these future developments. “We would like to congratulate Rio Tinto and hope to be a part of these promising announcements for our region, and for the future of our company,” concluded Hélène Deschênes, General manager of STAS.
